Katie Oman Seattle Office

Katie joined FDA in 2001. She has managed FDA’s work on the current expansion of the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego with LMN Architects, the Menlo Atherton High School PAC with Hodgetts + Fung, Alice Tully Hall & Juilliard School at Lincoln Center with Diller, Scofidio, and Renfro, and the recently completed Ciudad del Flamenco in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain with Herzog & de Meuron. She has also managed a series of feasibility studies for FDA, including the potential re-invigoration and re-imagining of Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, new configurations and proposals for Cincinnati Music Hall, a new Strategic Master Plan for Seattle Repertory Theatre, and a programming study for Reed College in Portland, Oregon.

Katie and Josh Dachs also designed and managed the critically acclaimed stage installation for the Mostly Mozart Festival at Avery Fisher Hall. The installation extended the existing stage by 30 feet, added 200-plus audience seats onstage surrounding the orchestra, and introduced a 12,000-pound acoustical and lighting canopy into the hall, completely transforming the 2400-seat hall for the Festival. The installation has been re-installed every summer for 3 years so far, and is intended to continue until renovation of Avery Fisher Hall commences.

In 2005, Katie left New York for Seattle where she now lives and works. She is currently working on a preliminary study to inventory fringe theatre spaces in the city, and create a planning tool for small theatre companies and municipal decision makers to help keep Seattle’s rampant real-estate development from displacing small-scale creative arts.

Katie spent college trying to design as many shows as possible while also getting her B.A. in Architecture at Princeton University. She designed, produced, and managed over 20 productions while at Princeton, and worked onstage at McCarter Theatre and in the University Office of Design and Construction. Her thesis work included a program and use analysis of campus performing arts facilities combined with an exploratory design of a new student theatre reusing a decommissioned University mechanical building.

Katie is an avid sailor, holds her Coast Guard 50-ton Master's license and races and sails around Puget Sound.
