Douglas Stebbins

Douglas Stebbins came to FDA in
1995 with over 9 years of experience
as an practicing architect working on
all aspects of theatre and performing
arts center design.
For eight years he was a project
architect and designer with Hardy
Holzman Pfeiffer Associates, playing
an active role in the planning,
renovation and design of more than a
dozen theatres.
Douglas specializes in reconciling
theatrical and architectural issues
such as Building Codes and ADA
requirements.
He worked with The Rockwell Group
on the new Venetian Casino theatre
and was the project manager for
new Guthrie Theatre complex in
Minneapolis.
A skilled designer who solves difficult
ADA issues, he led FDA’s efforts in
programming and design of that major
three theater project with the Paris and
Minneapolis offices of Jean Nouvel.
Douglas served as FDA’s project
manager for a half dozen Florida
projects, including the $455 million
Carnival Center for Performing Arts
in Miami, where he coordinated the
firm’s work with several architects,
project engineers, and acousticians.
He is currently working on the Smith
Center for the Performing Arts in Las
Vegas, two theaters at the Marins Bay
Sands Casino Project in Singapore as
well as the Zaryadye redevelopment
project in Moscow.
Since joining FDA in 1995, Douglas
has worked on both the unbuilt Mirage
and MGM Grand theatre designs; the
Pittsburgh Public Theatre with Michael
Graves Architects; the performance
hall for the University of North Texas
at Denton with Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer;
and the award-winning Spencer
Theatre in Ruidoso, New Mexico, with
Antoine Predock.
Prior to joining FDA, he figured
prominently in the redevelopment
of New York’s 42nd Street Theatre
District, and was project architect for
the award-winning renovation of The
New Victory theatre in New York City,
under the direction of architect Hugh
Hardy of HHPA.
Douglas holds a Master’s Degree in
Architecture from Syracuse University,
and has completed a professional
development course on theatre
design at Harvard Graduate School
of Design.
